About Us » The Mission's History
The Wellington City Mission has been working for the people of Wellington since 1904.
As Wellington society has changed, so has the work of The Mission. The Mission's evolution over this time has been greatly influenced by the changing needs of the less fortunate citizens of the Wellington area. Successive City Missioners have valiantly tried to respond to the needs of the day. Their resources have always been limited, but they have persevered and with their staff, volunteers and the generous support of donors and sponsors, have made great contributions to the lives of people needing help.
The "time-line" illustrates just some of the ways in which The Mission has responded and supported individuals and groups in the Wellington community over the last century.
The Wellington City Mission is now in its second century of service. In the years ahead, the programmes are certain to keep evolving and developing in tune with the needs of those who struggle to cope in the community. The Mission will continue to serve the people of the Wellington region with care and compassion.
